Overview
Generative AI is taking the world by storm. Indeed, AI tools, e.g., GPT, are disrupting all kinds of professions. Education is no exception. In this session, the speaker will introduce various AI-based teaching and learning functions that are designed to empower teachers to enable more effective learning of the English subject, covering P1-6 and S1-6.
From a ’growth mindset’ vantage point, teachers who embrace these AI-based functions in their teaching, e.g., automatic marking of compositions, automatic assessment of pronunciations, etc., will be able to scale up the breadth (in terms of quantity of tasks), depth (in terms of sophistication of vocabulary and sentence structures), and advancement (in terms of the accountable progress of learning).
Specifically, from a pedagogical innovation point of view, the tools integrating all four skills, can enable teachers to implement, with minimal overhead, teaching strategies that can possibly further enhance students’ learning. For instance, with AI-assisted spoken English training and reading buddy for outside of classroom practicing, flipped classroom learning can be conducted so that the relatively short classroom hours can be utilised more effectively.
In summary, the speakers strongly believe that new integrated (tightly connecting all four skills) pedagogy would emerge from effective use of AI-based functions.
