In this seminar, the speaker will share the developmental needs for sex and relationship education among today’s secondary school students. Common concerns among teachers when implementing sex education, such as the teaching content and its priority, the reactions of students, and whether sex and relationship education leading to an increase in sexual behaviours of students, will be covered by the speaker,. Sharing of effective teaching strategies of implementing sex and relationship education and case studies will also be included in this seminar.
With the support of the Quality Education Fund, our center implemented the "GPS to Intimate Relationship– Sex and Relationship Education Program for Adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder” in eight secondary schools from 2018 to 2020. The effectiveness study results showed that participating students demonstrated significant improvements in their knowledge of sex and relationship, as well as their social skills. Since 2022, we have been conducting the QEF Thematic Networks “GPS to Social Development for Secondary Students” program in twenty-four secondary schools, delivering classes to teach junior secondary students about sex and relationship. The effectiveness study results indicate that students' related knowledge has significantly improved after participating in the program.
Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the developmental needs of secondary school students in sex and relationship education nowadays. They will also acquire effective teaching strategies to implement sex and relationship education in schools, enabling more students to learn about healthy sexual knowledge and make informed decisions based on the principles of “safety” and “respect”.
