Cultivating English Literacy Development for Students in ID School

Well-being Theatre | DEI Theatre (Curated by EdCity)

Overview

In this seminar, the speaker will discuss the implementation of a school-based curriculum that aligns with the EDB curriculum guide while catering to the unique needs of our students. A central feature of the curriculum is the integration of theme-based and task-based learning, which engages students and facilitates the acquisition of vocabulary and grammar in context. By situating language learning within meaningful themes, students can see the practical application of their skills.

There is a tailored phonics curriculum that is linked to the reading programme, enabling students to build foundational literacy skills effectively. The speaker will also introduce a modified 5-bit routine strategy that is adopted in the lessons, and discuss how this can enhance reading instructions. The e-Learning resources and self-directed learning materials used will also be introduced.

Overall, the speaker will highlight how these strategies collectively foster literacy development and achieve intellectually challenged students’ learning objectives, while thriving in their learning experiences.
