Integrating Mindfulness into the LTA Cycle: A Hong Kong Story

Well-being Theatre | DEI Theatre (Curated by EdCity)

Overview

The Jockey Club ‘Peace and Awareness’ Mindfulness Culture in Schools Initiative (JC PandA) represents a scaled implementation of mindfulness practices in Hong Kong schools. This seminar shares insights from the team’s pioneering work in integrating mindfulness within the Learning-Teaching-Assessment (LTA) cycle of the curriculum frameworks of selected local primary and secondary schools. As one of the first comprehensive mindfulness programmes in Chinese societies, JC PandA uniquely combines intervention with systematic research, creating an evidence-based approach to promoting mental well-being in educational settings.

The speaker’s work addresses the pressing concern of mental health among Hong Kong students and teachers through a culturally-adapted mindfulness programme. The Initiative demonstrates how mindfulness practices can be effectively embedded into existing educational structures rather than treated as isolated interventions. Through extensive collaboration with schools, the speaker’s team has developed models for implementing mindfulness practices that respect both academic requirements and well-being needs.

This seminar will also showcase the team’s journey from initial implementation to future vision, highlighting how mindfulness can transform educational experiences while supporting academic excellence via the train-the-trainer approach. The speaker will share practical strategies, research findings, and the team’s roadmap for scaling mindfulness education across Hong Kong's school system.
